At what point would you not?** A: As a former member of the military, and to answer your question directly, I do not think there would be any safety related issues using this tape to control hot spots/friction points. That said, I would recommend you use this tape (or any comparable tape), prior to the event that may bring about hot spots. That is what I would typically do.
