It is a partial chime. So the shortest chime is at quarter after the hour and it gets longer at half past and quarter til and then plays the whole thing plus the number of chimes for the hour at the hour. You can turn off the chime. And you can adjust the volume as well. **Q: Is the chime a Westminster Chime?** A: Yes. You can also set to chime on half or quarter hour. Happy with it **Q: Can you make this chime hourly only?** A: I didn't see any adjustment for that. There were other clocks that only did the hour and half hour that looked like this one. **Q: Does is make Ticking Sound?** A: No, just chimes as noted.
