They cut through a tomato like it isn't even there to give you an idea. They are balanced and fit well in the hand.What isn't immediately clear from the photos is they are solid metal.. The handles too. They have some sort of paint or transfer applied to make them look like wood. On my set there were a couple of chips in this paint already when I unboxed them and I can see this getting worse with age and use.. This doesn't bother me but it might bother others.The other slight negative is the knife block. It's a very dark wood with a grooved surface so even in a well lit kitchen it's not always easy to see the slot for the knife...
