I think the grass smell is quite pleasant.However, with natural products do come some natural challenges. On a sleepless night I had the light on and spotted a couple of mites. Upon researching mites and tatami mats, I found sites that recommend sprays and wipes. I could not find any of these products for purchase here in the US.I really like my mats and I would hate to give them up. As I said, I have only seen a couple and I live in a somewhat rural area. But I think it would be good for Amazon to carry some of the mite treatment products.For others who have ordered, if you haven't yet, look up sites on how to maintain your tatami. ### ⭐⭐ beautiful material and scent but not holding up after only a year *by B***B on Reviewed in the United States on June 27, 2018* These mats are truly beautiful, at first have a very earthy smell that invites a kind of escape. However, after a year of mild use (no shoes, two adults in one apartment), I am sad to say that they have began to fray at the edges, rendering them not so useful without an ugly intervention like duck tape or something. Once the grasses are loose, they start to unweave and break off, getting tracked all over the house.
