Out of the box, its a plug and play switch. Although as a straight 8 port switch, its rather costly. That said it’s far more than that; assuming you know (of a willing to learn) how to get the most from it. Regards power usage - there are options to turn off the POE, and also specific ports, as well as auto-enable/disable ports. Although my initial investigation of these option didn’t work as expected (i blame myself, and have since downloaded the manual - the online help isn’t great!)
