His primary message to his reader is "There is a road out of this terrible place."PTSD victims and their family members have to be reminded of this at every turn, for the depression and isolation that usually comes with PTSD, too often leads to suicide. It should be the first book read and should certainly be read before doing the PTSD Workbook by Mary Beth Williams. I was thankful for the book because it showed me that the "therapy" I was getting from the VA Hospital was piss poor at best. My major gripe about the book is an insinuation that The Department of Veterans Affairs knows anything about PTSD. I got more help from this book than I did with 3 years of mental health care from the VA. I need to read this book again and slowly so that I absorb all the information and so that I can apply the tips and solutions to my life. I am thankful beyond words for the author and for the information and examples given. I am thankful it was written with examples that were easy to understand. But it tends to make you repeat yourself and your story several times, which can bring some anxiety to your life. But when all is said and done, it is an important tool in your recovery from PTSD. I do recommend it, although I don't recommend going over your traumas multiple times like they want to. It's kind of a mixed bag of positives and negatives. I did get over largest part of my PTSD, but I didn't come out of it totally unscathed.
