I took apart the box it came in and jammed the styrofoam into the window sill gap and then taped the side window covers it comes with over top and it surprsingly insulated the sides. Being in college I didn't care how it looked. I run it at night and as long as you set it to "stay cool" it won't cut off randomly, but if you leave it on the starting setting it will try to keep turning off to save energy so just set that straight and you're good. Fan on low is too much, this I can take care of. What I can not work around because it is designed tomdo this is when you turn it back on after you turn it off the settings reset to mode and temperature "they" selected. So for instance if I use the fan, turn it off, turn it back on energy efficiency 72degrees comes on. Ok its a pain but to boot, you really can't see where you are at with regard to mode, from across the room. Now you have to got there, which negates why I got one with a remote.
