What can I do to eliminate the chemical smell. It's keeping me from using them!** A: It is possible to wash them in a washing machine in warm water with a bunch of towels on top. You'll have to push the pillow under the water a few times throughout the cycle. I also run it thru an extra rinse cycle. Also a dryer sheet and the air dry cycle on your dryer. Just remember NO heat. **Q: is the exterior covering washable?** A: For anyone else who wants to know, while this is supposed to be spot cleaned, you can put it in a pillow case and safety pin it shut or use one of the fine mesh (like Woolite or Tide brands) lingerie bags. Wash it on gentle and then air dry it. I even wash kids' stuffed animals that way, and they come out like new. It WOULD be nice if it came with a slip cover, but it doesn't, so this is an alternative way to wash it and get it really clean. **Q: Can it be a toy** A: No...it is filled with tiny styrofoam beads. If it gets a hole in it a small child could choke or suffocate on the tiny styrofoam beads. I would NOT recommend it for small children or a toy. It's not very comfortable as a neck pillow either & im not sure why it got decent reviews. I would give it 1 1/2 stars & that's being generous. :/ **Q: does the cover come off for washing?** A: No but if you have a newer type of washer and put it in a pillowcase cover (they have a zipper closure) to wash on a delicate cycle it will be fine. I have a tendency to doze off, which leads to my head falling and... yeah. You know the drill LOL I've found that while memory foam pillows offer a lot of firm support, it's almost restrictive. Helpful if you want to keep your head up while recovering from dental surgery, but maybe not as ideal for travel. This pillow offers just the right amount of support. Plus I've found it helpful when sleeping in bed. I put my arm through the hole and hug it to my chest (side sleeper) and for whatever reason, that helps me relax more. Docked one point because I'm torn on the covering. One half is a little too slick and the other half plush, like a stuffed animal. I'd prefer something like a faux velvet, if that makes sense.
