They are by far the most robust monitor stands I have ever purchased. There is an adjustment capability that allows lower weight monitors to stay in a lowered position. However, the instructions clearly state the the position of the stand should not and cannot be adjusted properly unless the monitor is mounted after the stand is installed. The lighter the monitor, the less tension required for the monitor to stay in its selected position. So, if certain reviewers adjusted the stand BEFORE attaching the monitor, I can understand why they might perceive a problem. **Q: The lip on the back of my desk is only 3/4" deep. Exactly how wide is the bottom part of the grommet mount?** A: My desk is the same. Instead of using the clamp mount, I used the Grommet mount which required me to drill a 3/8" hole in the top of my desk at the location where I wanted the base to be.
