My issue is that I am not sure they are the Rico brand as the title indicates, if you look at the box under the word Royal, it shows another maker, not Rico. **Q: Are these a lot harder than the 2.5s or just a bit harder to play on?** A: I found them just a little harder than a 2.5 **Q: When purchasing reeds, do they come with reed holders or do you have to buy those individually?** A: The reeds that I purchased came in plastic reed holders but I didn't buy a whole box. She is considered 1st chair, by the band teacher and a professional clarinetist who has a son in the band, but they don't use the "chair" designation because someone's feelings may get hurt. She likes these reeds, on par and a little better than the standard Vandoren reeds. She rated them 4-1/2 but I can only put whole stars. Update 30 Oct 2012. Now my youngest is using these reeds. The oldest decided to do chior and drama in High School. The yougest is just learning to play, so she has already gone through a box of #2 in 2 months, about a reed a week. I moved the youngest up to the Royal because of better tonal quality and when I purchase them here through Woodwinds and Brasswinds the come very quickly. I like to order them directly at WWBW because they let me choose between USPS (US mail) and UPS without charging for shipping. My son plays alto sax and he uses the Royal Sax version. Just a slight difference in cost an better sound quality, and it comes quickly.
