We used them to surround a pinewood derby track to keep the kids back a few feet and they looked good and served their purpose. The flags are firmly attached to the line they are on and it's strong enough to handle being tied around things, etc. A few things to consider with your setup: the flags themselves are printed on one side only and are a fairly thin plastic. They have a nice shape hanging downward but probably aren't stiff enough to hang sideways, and you may want to consider the viewing angles people will have.
