The only detractor is I definitely have to wear blister band aids on my heels, as the way these come up rubs the wrong way. If you're looking for cold weather shoes, these are not your answer, but Columbia makes excellent boots with cold ratings. I have another pair for just that, and those are great, too. Review: The tongues of these shoes are a nightmare....the rest of the shoe is great, but the tongues are too stiff and weirdly constructed so they bunch up and rub and irritate the tops of my feet. I kept thinking they'd squash down and mind their manners after breaking them in, but after having these for like a year now, the tongues are still fat and awkward and cruel. They're LESS so now than when I got them, but I can barely stand to wear these shoes and only do so with thick socks. I should have returned them when they first arrived. Great traction. A llittle stiffer than my usual running shoes, but they are quite runable!! Did not check the waterproofing as everything is frozen but they do seem a little warmer than some running shoes and also protect feet better from rocks, sticks etc Lacing system allows for nice snug fit.
