Good stone if you know how to use it.
I at first hated this stone due to a layer of someone that it was covered in and it was preventing the abrasive qualities of the stone to work properly.I lapped the stone flat and faced it with a progression of dmt plates from 600-1200 and now the stone came to life and is performing the way nature intended.I will say that I’ve only used this stone with water and not mixtures or oils yet but with water I’m getting good edges off of it but it’s a slow stone and I don’t get the best feed back from it however I have been able to get some really good edges off of this stone. But I need to spend more time in it because I think this stone has more to offer. I would like to know what type of stone this is so I can do more research and less trial and error. Aside from learning what type of rock this is I’d also like to see other natural whetstones from Asia or Vietnam.

More coarse than advertised
This is a good stone but more coarse than advertised. Closer to 2000 grit than the 3 to 6 thousand advertised. Knives will require work on a finer stone for a keen edge.

Fabulous, worth it.
I'm lucky to find this amazing sharpening stone! It is natural, and worth it.I have many knives and they are so delicate that I won't try any sharpening unless it's very good. For the Shun and Henckels knives, I already had the sharpening steels (Shun) for them. The sharpening steels does the job for a short time but a stone is needed after a while.I've been searching and tried out a man-made stone (grit from 1000 to 3000) but it doesn't do a good job. This stone, I found on Amazon unintentionally and I'm truly amazed with it. After sharpening, my knives can cut paper and tomato as it was the very first day I bought them.I also tried the stone with one of the dull knife that I used to cut a big tree in my backyard. Ow! Now it can cut, slice beef and fish at ease ! like nothing ever happen to it.To get the best result, my experience is to emerge the stone for couples of hours prior to using. An angle of ~ 15 o is recommended.I've bought a lot of stuffs from Amazon and this natural stone is one of good thing you can still find here. Happy.
