The tape provide a leak-free seal and a much easier filter replacement after the unit has been assembled on the counter for months. ### ⭐ Triple "Stainless Steel" Filter Easily Rusts & Has Painted Plastic Base That Chips & Leaks *by F***A on October 6, 2018* I purchased this triple water filter because its described as a stainless steel, but it's omitted in the description that the base it's plastic, as well as the knob to let water into the filter. The plastic base is painted to match the stainless steel, but the paint easily chips off, even before using the filter. But more upsetting than that, it leaks, a lot, and I don't see a way to stop it from leaking, so this filter is unusable, which makes it an expensive piece of garbage. Also, the stainless steel has gotten a lot of rust spots all over, just from being stored in a dry place, with no contact to water. Before using, I cleaned inside and out, and spent a lot of time removing the rusts spots but could not remove all the rust. I also spent a lot of time aligning and screwing in the 3 housing for the cartridges, 2 of them were not as difficult but one was extremely difficult, so it was very time consuming to get all 3 screwed on right and tightly so it wouldn't leak. When I turned the water on, after a little while water started to leak from the base, which means it wasn't seal properly to make it water-proof. Since I purchase this filter more than a year ago, it is way too late for me to be able to return it so I'm out of all the money I paid for it, unless I can figure out a way to seal the base so that it does not leak. I should have tested it as soon as I got it, but I didn't and now I'm stuck with a defective, piece of junk filter. Do yourself a favor and avoid buying this, get a different filter.
