My feet vary in size depending on what I wear, I can be a UK 7 or in my Hoka trail running shoes 8 - 8.5 . I ordered the XL and the fit is perfect. A great buy. Socks with individual toes work well for that but nearly sever my poor toes as you push your foot forward and the bits between toes cut in. These are a decent compromise: they don't twist round your feet, nor do they hurt the toes, and the grip is good. The main downside is they make your feet really hot and sweaty as they're made of an almost wetsuit-like material - I can't wear them on a warm day at all.
