    Jumbo, larger than the Mighty

*by M***E on Reviewed in the United States on August 29, 2014*

From what I can tell, there is "Mighty Red", "Big Red", and "Jumbo Red", the first being the smallest and third being the largest. I bought this - the largest - because I wanted to mix concrete - real concrete, with stones in it. One review of "Big Red" says that he managed to do just that, but it didn't make it into the "corners" of the bucket well. This has a different shaped bottom, which is flat, so I thought it may do the trick, but I was worried that the addition of the flat bottom might actually impede the original design.None of these mixers claim to work for real concrete. I think they - at least this one - are designed for real concrete, but nobody wants to say it's going to work perfectly. Anyway, long story short, after a learning curve, I had it working pretty well with my large Bosch hammer drill (hammer off, of course) with 1/2" chuck. The only annoying thing being when the chuck does start coming loose and your chuck key and the end of this tool both start rounding after multiple times putting it back on. An SDS-Max version would be awesome, but then you'd need a rotary hammer for it to work.I suggest putting this in the bucket (or basin, bin, whatever) first, then loading concrete and water in layers before starting the spin. Try to give it jolts of energy at first and get everything a little moist before giving it full speed. Prepare for a bit of cleanup afterward unless you think you're really able to follow those directions to a "T" without any slip-ups. Also, I was mixing concrete for under the ground, and it came out very well, but I wasn't super concerned with passing a slump test. Regardless, I'm pretty happy with this thing for some imprecise (forgiving) concrete work.I'll note, though, that it came with imperfect welds and a lot of paint chipping off, looking like something cheap you'd get at Harbor Freight (although something about that overused red color may be the reason I think that way). The paint didn't matter, because half of it is stripped off after a few bags of concrete. It's ferrous metal, but it doesn't strike me as the type to rust easily; I'll be curious if basic care and drawer storage keeps it rust free, and let you know if I have any problems.Really, it might only get three stars, except it's getting a bigger job done than it was touted to be able to do, so it was a good buy for me.

Not heavy duty. It did get me through 7 50lbs bags of self leveling compound. Weld broke . Maybe weld a little heavier bead on the bottom?

Works great. Just like the seller saysI use a Milwaukie 1/2 Hole Shooter. You need a good 1/2" chuck and power. Mixes small batches of concrete well. I use it to mix garden soils too
