The piston filling mechanism is easily operated by twisting the knob at the end of the barrel counter-clockwise to extend the piston, submerging the nib in ink, then screwing the knob tight to retract the piston, drawing ink into the pen straight from the bottle-no need for cartridges or a converter! Precision Anti-leaking Rotation Design : operating the piston while ink is in the pen will cause ink to leak out of the pen. You can wist the knob end of the barrel in clockwise to lock it until you hear a "click"

Review: Amazing pens for the price, but don't fidget with the piston with the cap on! - While I am no a pro with fountain pens and I don't own anything more expensive than a LAMY, I will say I am VERY happy with these. A few observations from the comments, having thoroughly inspected these. First, the cap seals very well. So if you fidget with the piston mechanism, you will create positive pressure or a vacuum inside with the cap on tight. DON'T DO THAT, unless you want ink all over the place. I loaded these and placed them in a cup for 3 days. Not a single bit of ink where it doesn't belong and they all wrote perfectly with no skipping and very fine, but ample ink flow for deep color on the paper. I would recommend these and will likely by a second set to put away for a rainy day. The size and thickness of the pen is perfect for my man hands and it was pretty simple to get them filled and writing if you know your way around a converter.
Review: decent pens @ a good price - I love the shiny & clear appearance, and the feel in hand is good (decent combo of body width & weight). The EF nib appears to generate line widths comperable to 0.5 or 0.7 mm. I'm still a n00b with respect to fountain pens, and it's pretty easy to get up & running with the pens in this set - unscrew pen cap, grip butt end & pull away from body/nib to unlatch piston, twist to push air out of pen, immerse nib in ink, twist butt end the opposite direction to draw ink into pen reservoir, push the butt end back towards pen body to relock piston, shake/wipe excess ink from nib, start writing, screw cap back on for storage. ... I've used 2 out of the 4 so far, and the writing quality is decent if slightly scratchy. ... Two cautions - (1) it IS possible to post the cap on the butt end of the pen while writing, but it tends to get stuck & unlock the piston when you go to pull it off (which can cause ink to leak/drip out of the nib), so save yourself the hassle and DON'T ... (2) cleaning the pen properly will prove challenging, so I wouldn't recommend changing ink very often - pick one & stick with it (after all, you have 4 pens to use for various colors on deck at the same time)

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Great pens for the price

At just over $3 a pen, these are functional pens that handily exceeded my expectations at this price point. Looks like some folks got lemons or older (or just different) versions. Fit and finish was better than I expected for three bucks. They are obviously rough TWSBI eco knockoffs. The plastic body and internals definitely feel less substantial and in build and material choice compared to the name brand, and the overall qc is not on the same level as the TWSBI... but they're also roughly ten times cheaper and you get what you pay for. I cleaned these before I used them (ran water through them, nothing more) and added some silicone grease to the piston to minimize the chances of piston leaks. Others have mentioned these cannot be disassembled for cleaning. The set I received can be, the top silver ring unscrews--see pics. The nib and feed look very similar to Pilot's Metropolitan setup, and I must admit I adore the clear feed material choice. Makes inks really pop. Seem to be somewhat wet writers, though I had to make a couple minor nib adjustments (if the two halves of the tip are not aligned, its pretty simple to lightly flex the lower one up--gently, of course--until they match). Writing pics: the one with three reddish sentences are, top to bottom, Metropolitan fine tip, these pens, and a pilot medium. The four multicolored sentences are the four pens I recieved in this order. Not a super fair comparison as the inks were different, but it should give a pretty good idea or consistency. Pic with two pens (pink end and other with red cap end) is one of these pens next to a TWSBI Eco. I didn't find it terribly easy to post the cap (place on and off the rear of the pen), and it seemed a bit unstable, but whatever. I actually prefer using them without for balance. I have no idea how long they'll last, but at this price point it hardly matters. So far they're consistent writers, and no leaks. I don't know if I'm going to trust them yet in the pocket of a good piece of clothing, but they're nice beaters for around the house, and so far an excellent value for the spend.
