First off for all my compassionate yogis, please, this is not real suede but a synthetic suede like upper. The top of the mat is smooth and beautiful and the image is not messed up by movement and the flow of the fibers. The print stays bold and beautiful and I would describe this as a royal purple.Upon opening you can smell the natural rubber smell which to me is a welcoming. I love rubber bases over any other material out there because of it's density and support on the fact I am a heavier male yogi at over 230lbs. Natural rubber had a unique smell but fear not it airs out. It is worth it for its unparalled support!Functionality wise. Yin/hatha/restorative wise this is a dream come true with dense padding and great dry grip from those slower moving and extended stretch/hold positions.
