Review: Great figure - It's a great figure I'm glad to have it to add to my GI Joe classified collection
Review: All-American armored hand-candy - Nowadays action figures can look so good I end up buying figures of characters I don't even recognize. Why do I own most of the Overwatch cast? Why did I grab all those Fortnite figs? Did I really need a Corpse Bride? (YES!) Even if I don't know who they are, I'll snatch them up if they translate well into action figure form. [THE PACKAGE] Are you tired of the back of the box showing you all the figures you have to collect in the series to build that Snarky Barista B.A.T.? Well, you still have to put up with it, but now Hasbro shows you what you'll be blowing all your cash/fake digital money on in an attractive comic book cover/movie poster layout. (Unfortunately, there are no extra parts in the box to build Barista B.A.T. You'll have to source your cups of joe from some other toy series.) Most of the characters featured on the back are available as figures in this Classified series, with more to follow. And as much as I look forward to yet another hot chick in a catsuit (only partially sarcastic), I'm keeping my eyes peeled and lubricated for the techy/monstrous/oddball/grunt characters. Hey, there's nothing wrong with heroic peeps wearing random colorful bits of armor, but the aesthetic doesn't appeal to me. I'd rather get badass Vipers who don't faff around with sparkly stars or single lime green kneepads. It's a good-looking package overall, with matte and glossy finishes for contrast. I particularly like the exposed plastic panel on the side that shows the figure's number in the series (05) as well as icons indicating what Scarlett's talents are. We can see that she's proficient at lock-picking with swords, archery, Chuck Norris impersonations, and accidentally wiping your hard drive. (Did I get those right?) [THE LOOKS] This freckled fresh-faced carrot-top looks like Scarlett in her early 20s. It's the all-American girl-next-door look, there are even hints of dimples and those small lines that form at the corner of your mouth when smiling, that for some reason women freak-out over and try to erase even though they're an attractive feature. (What's up with that, ladies?) The outfit's appearance is based more on the modern IDW comics version than the classic (and laughable) battle leotard from decades ago. It also shares elements with a statue Prime 1 released a few years ago. While I do appreciate the updated look, the superhero-inspired aesthetic on these G.I. Joes is rubbing me like steel wool on sandpaper. I like techy armor, but those bits look out of place tacked on to the more down-to-earth military dress underneath. (I mean, as down-to-earth as textured zigzag leggings, a gridlined upper torso, and reinforced hexagonal patches can be. Bah! I bought the fig anyway, right?) Everything is painted in solid colors, giving the fig a crisp comic book vibe, though the red on the thighs does have subtle shading. [THE STABBY THINGS] Some people are punchers, some people are stabbers, Scarlett likes crossbows. Oh yeah, and knives. And shurikens. And spinning back kicks. I suspect she just likes to break bones and mirrored face-shields and would do it with a key-chain given the opportunity. (Maybe that's what that one icon on the package means?) A 2-piece crossbow and 3 knives (that can be stored on the bandolier) are included with the figure. I think the knives look more like plastic utensils than instruments of death, but that might be because currently we're all ordering take-out. [THE SIZE] Scarlett is listed as being 5-foot 6-inches, the same height as the MMPR Yellow Power Ranger (actress Thuy Trang), but the figures are noticeably different heights. Without hair, this Scarlett figure stands about 147mm while the Yellow Power Ranger stands about 140mm. In other words, even if 6-inch scale articulated toy lines are released by the same parent company, it doesn't guarantee the figures will be in-scale across the toy lines. But, like we've been doing since forever, you can always fudge the scaling by using poses or props to display your figures, no one complains too hard when it still looks cool on the shelf. I like the figure's proportions, it doesn't look scrawny, unlike the females from Hasbro's Marvel Legends line. [THE BENDS] I want to praise Hasbro for the articulation their engineers keep implementing into their figures, but I also want to yell at them for not doing this years sooner. It's not like there was any shortage of ideas that they could harvest from fans and other toy lines. I mean, sure, in recent years we've had other things to worry about, like the looming specter of global war and a recession, and we're in a recession again right now, but...but...well, whatever, here we are, lots of useful articulation that still manages to be easy on the eyes. Depending on how eclectic your toy-collecting is, you may recognize some of the joint designs from other toy lines. For example, the vertical pivot at the hips from Bandai model kits or the soft rubbery crotch piece from Play Arts Kai and NECA figures. These two things help maximize the hips' range of motion without spoiling the eye candy. The belt is a separate piece that hides the ball-joint at the waist; the upper torso's ball-joint is "hidden" by virtue of the sculpt; the neck looks like nothing special but there are actually 3 joints in it that also maximize the range! And even though they only tilt about 1mm forward or back, there are shoulder pivots in the chest. Hasbro chose aesthetics over articulation there but it's fine, the arms can still swing forward enough to hold something 2-handed. If there's an ass that needs kicking, Scarlett can contort to make it happen. (The only thing she can't do is scratch her nose because of the single-hinge elbows.) [THE HOLES IN THE BOTTOM OF THE FEET WE NEVER GET TO USE BECAUSE THEY AREN'T STANDARDIZED] Many of these high-falutin' articulated action figures have holes in the soles of their shoes that can't be used because the stands are lost at the bottom of the sea. Seriously, even if you buy a pack of third-party action figure stands odds are that the pegs will either fit too loosely or not fit at all in many of the figures' soles. (I personally tested this when designing my own figure stands.) The holes aren't standardized, they vary even within the same toy line. I think it would be a good idea for Hasbro to release their own brand of figure stands, with different peg and hole sizes, so we can finally use the frikkin' things. I 3D printed my own stands, and while they work, I'd prefer the affordability and availability of injection-molded pieces. [THE END?] Yes, it's the end. Thanks for reading! Feel free to send me stuff to review and make fun of.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ This is the future and the future is bright!
*by P***R on November 14, 2020*

This figure is almost perfect. The head sculpt and paint on the head are fantastic, the body however has very little detail and a pretty poor paint application at least on mine and on the other figures that I'd give a 7/10. The articulation is pretty fantastic for the price, it's almost the full functioning articulation of a figure you would pay at least twice the price for. Slightly disappointed with the packaging, not in the sense it doesn't capture the main them, it's gorgeous packaging but that it misses everything that original packaging had, and I know the reasons for it, don't agree with it, but it is what it is. Packaging aside, the majority of my disappointment is focused on a very weak gear, kit, load out, or accessories. Both that they are a flat black mold and repeating/boring. Give her a M700 even just flat black mold and a cheap fabric ghillie suit. Hey, even two Mac-10s would have been very welcome in place of at least one knife. I'd like to give the figure a 4 star, but it's a good sculpt, probably in my top 3 not including re-releases and re-tools, it's Scarlett, and I love Scarlett, and Baroness, and Lady Jaye, and Covergirl, and I know the problems there with CG. Is what it is. And it's GIJOE and I'm happy the line is getting justice and still going strong. So I'm giving it a 5 star. Great figure for playing with and/or collecting and a very reasonable price and available, least so far.
