Totally safe, there are no hazardous petro-chemical solvents or additives. Village Green Wood Stain is VOC free, odour free, easy to use and dries fast. Our interior solvent free wood stain colours penetrate deep into the wood and binds to the wood fibres. The semi-transparent qualities enhance the wood grain, leaving a beautiful natural finish. Interior solvent free wood stain colours can be used on all joinery, window frames, doors, door frames and of course floors, as well as kitchen units, worktops, tables, chairs, furniture, cupboards etc. Easy to use, wipe, brush, or spray, fast to apply, fast to dry. Before applying, it is important to ensure the wood surface is free of previous finishes and imperfections by sanding with the grain. Wood must be clean, dry and dust free. Simply shake the bottle thoroughly to ensure pigment dispersal, then add contents to a suitable container and apply using a brush, lint free cloth or sponge. Coverage is excellent, being between 7 and 10 square metres per litre, depending on the moisture content and porosity of the wood. Drying time is fast. Normal drying takes around 1 hour, depending on weather conditions. Clean up could not be more simple. Just use soap and water. Finish by sealing the stain with wax, oil, water based lacquer or varnish. It didn't soak in like other stains I've used, the consistency was like a very watered down paint. As it was so dark, I was reluctant to put it on too heavy as I hadn't wanted it so dark, however I tried a second layer to see if the brush marks would get covered up...they didn't.As it was so dark, once dry, I decided I'd sand it back a little, hoping that the stain would have soaked in and sanding it would take away the brush strokes and lighten the colour....I was wrong; it came off instantly and was like powder! Again, giving a very paint like feeling.And the final disappointment is that the pigment hadn't soaked into the wood whatsoever, just into the cracks. So now I've ended up with wood that looks absolutely filthy; where the wood was smooth, it's almost back to it's original colour (without having to put any effort into sanding it - using a fine grit sander), and where there were cracks/knots, it just looks dirty.I'm kind of lost with what to do next as it'll take a lot of effort to get it sanded back past the knots/cracks :-(I don't know if I got a dud bottle with wrong ratios of chemicals, but jeppers the end result is bad! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Good stain *by G***K on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 26 April 2020* Initially I didn't like this. I tried it on the underside of the table (unsanded and unprepped) and it looked like paint rather than stain - a dull thick grey. But when I used it on the properly sanded prepped table top it was a lovely colour. Other reviewers say it's thin - it is, but that's the nature of stain. It's not meant to be paint. If you want it dark and thick you'll need to use a lot, but if you want a nice grey stain, with the different wood tones coming through then this is good stuff ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Lovely Colour And Finish! *by H***N on Reviewed in the United Kingdom on 10 June 2019* Delivery was fast, and package was in excellent condition. I only purchased the 250ml of this wood stain, as a tester, however it has totally surprised me with what I have achieved so far. It goes a long way as other reviews have mentioned, and I have finished a bathroom display unit, a wood mirror frame and a surface top to a draw unit. The colour is a soft bluish/lavender grey, very pretty.
