Pin number 3 is what tells your motherboard the rotations per minute (RPM) of the fan. So, all that you are left with is the first two pins. The first pin is ground (almost always black) and the second pin is the power (it's 12 volts, but you can get 5 volts from the a custom connector from the power supply instead of the 4 pin motherboard connector if you want to have a slower fan).
