I have found that when I wash my feet with even the mildest of soaps I can develop something I can only call a phantom burning sensation (a recurrence of the original burning without any chemicals present). I know this sounds odd but I liken it to Phantom Limb sensation where there is no limb but it still itches. Though it is definitely psychological it is nonetheless extremely painful and can keep me up all night.
