I was in a book slump after reading the “Home” series and “Imprinted Tattoos” by Nikita Parmenter(also fantastic books btw I totally recommend), until someone recommended this book to me and I loved it!! The main storyline of the first book is Olivia escaping her kidnapper and then the beginnings of her healing journey along with the new family she becomes apart of. I think the story was effortless and I didn’t feel as if it was too cheesy, forced, over the top, and it definitely wasn’t boring. Just all around enjoyable. Olivia and her guys are such lovable characters. Give this book a try, you won’t regret it. And I’m very picky! Review: Love the story! - The story line is fantastic! I just have a few issues with it that made it lose a star in my book. Some include spoilers so keep that in mind before reading on: - there are some grammar issues, as well as mixing of the meters and feet (makes sense for Kade, but not for Olivia) that were frustrating, but not enough to lose a star on their own - Olivia heals and opens up to the family so quickly, it seems a bit too fast. She seems to heal super quickly without any professional help. Yes, she has panic attacks at loud noises, but she has been denied any interaction with anyone for 8 years, no sound, no light, nothing. I don't believe she'd fit in so quickly and seem so normal for the most part. If her growth took place over months versus days and weeks, it would be more believable. - Olivia talks like a normal seventeen year old within a week of getting free of her captor. I'd think that without talking to anyone for years, 1. She'd have some odd talking quirks, because she'd been talking to herself for so long, and 2. Her speech patterns and decision-making processes would be more childlike. Yes, she seemed mature for a 9 year old when she was taken, but that long alone should have stunted her social skills a lot more. - Matt should not have been the one to think of going door-to-door for information on her kidnapper. Some law enforcement professional would have thought of that, especially since they live in such a big city and could have had more people working on such a big case. Other than that, it was near perfect. I would put the quality of writing up with some of the most talented authors I read. This was an emotionally charged story and Kerry knows how to build the characters and the world so that you find yourself quickly and deeply invested. You are going to be rooting so hard for the fmc and her H's all of whom have had a damaging life that has tried to break them. You can really see why they all need each other and the unique qualities they each bring to the new family group they are developing. This story has it all, action, intensity, loads of emotional connection, the beginnings of a beautiful romance. I can NOT wait for the second part to release.
