## Description

A golden superfood, straight from New Zealand, Manuka Honey is one of nature’s most complex creations. Manuka honey is made exclusively by bees who consume the nectar of Manuka blossoms, a plant whose properties are what make Manuka honey so special. Wedderspoon believes that Mother Nature knows best, which is why we don’t process, age, heat, or manipulate our KFactor honey. We allow our bees to roam freely through remote terrain on New Zealand's South Island and feast on wild Manuka blossoms, then we cream our honey fresh so it tastes like Manuka should. The result is Manuka honey brimming with a unique and creamy taste and full of living enzymes and antioxidants to empower your daily wellness.

Review: Manuka magick! - This is an excellent quality Manuka Honey product. There is a bit of confusion over the UMF, MGO and OMA rating thing. UMF is the original and trademarked. MGO is a newer rating system that does not directly correlate to UMF but is accurate nonetheless. OMA is Wedderspoon's own rating system for determining activity within the raw honey. From my reading it appears to be pretty equitable to UMF. This honey is also USDA Organic certified (although that doesn't mean as much these days) to ensure that there are no additive ingredients to the product. As for usage, I have two jars of this honey. I used the first on my wife's wounds following MOHS surgery for removal of skin cancer. The results were amazing and the surgeon and plastic surgeon both asked what we were using to allow the wounds to heal up so quickly with minimal scarring. There was also a staph infection as a result of the surgery that the honey took care of as well. It takes a bit of diligence to ensure daily dressing changes with fresh honey, but the results pay off. I ended up pre-soaking gauze with the honey and sandwiching between two layers of plastic wrap to create more manageable "bandages". These were used by my wife when she traveled in addition to direct application to the cleaned wound bed. Basic process: Clean wound with Hydrogen Peroxide, follow with colloidal silver in nebulizer, then drizzle honey into wound and cover wound with pre-soaked gauze pad. The last bit is to cover the pre-soaked pad with a waterproof dressing like a Telfa-style pad to reduce oozing onto clothing/bedding. Care must be taken in finding adhesives that do not irritate the skin too much with the frequent dressing changes. There are also larger waterproof wound dressings with silver-impregnated that might be a good combination. Main idea is to minimize air-space and keep honey in constant contact with wound bed. If this all sounds new, do some research on honey for wound care at the University of Waikato in New Zealand courtesy of Dr. Peter Molan. Note, this honey is not "sterilized" via gamma radiation (which is not supposed to reduce activity in the honey like pasteurization) but is still highly effective. Honey is resistant to most any spoilage due to its activity and the sterilization process is just an extra step some honey manufacturer's take (Comvita or Summerglow) to be able to sell their products as medical devices in the US. It will allow the honey to be FDA-approved. Again, as I understand this is not a requirement but is done largely to gain approval for medical usage in hospitals and clinics. Check out Medihoney dressings. BTW, I have also used this topically on oral canker sores with great effect! Sores dissappeared in days and not weeks! Applied directly 3 x day. Lastly, the other jar I use for tea and even coffee and it is delicious. It has a strong floral taste and finish (as would be expected) and is alittle more viscous than other Manuka honeys I have tried. I have tried nearly all Manuka honey brands from NZ as I visit often and find this to be a great option for those of us who need a high-quality active raw Manuka honey without paying a load for shipping up the stuff from down under. Or you can just ask a friend heading that way to bring you back some :P
Review: Really Quite Something!! - I stumbled onto Manuka Honey last year and I was really blown away by all of the claims that were being made about this honey. My family eats a lot of honey and we have really made serious changes to our diets in recent years. We no longer eat processed food, get all of our meats & produce from organic CSA farms and we are constantly on the look out for ways to further improve our diets. After reading about Manuka Honey, I simply had to give it a try. The brand I ordered was Wedderspoon Active 16+. To say that I was impressed is an understatement as the flavor is absolutely to die for. It has a very unique taste. To be honest, its the best honey I have ever had. I am a yogurt junkie and started making homemade yogurt a couple years back. Sprinkling some Manuka Honey over homemade yogurt is simple amazing. Its hands down the best yogurt topping I have ever tried and I have tried almost everything. The unique taste of Manuka honey blends perfectly with yogurt. Throw some granola in there and again its absolutely to die for. One of the other things I use it for regularly is on toast. We buy fresh bread every other day from our local bakery and Manuka Honey on fresh toasted bread is just as amazing as the yogurt. As for its antibacterial claims, its absolutely 100% true. My wife has a very mild case of eczema but a couple times a year it acts up and can get pretty bad. The episodes usually last a week or two. She literally has like 10+ different kinds of hand lotion specifically aimed at treating Eczema. When I first told her about Manuka Honey she was extremely skeptical, in regards to what it could do for her skin, but since we already had some she said she would give it a try. Sure enough like 6 weeks later her Eczema stated acting up, mostly on her hands. Before she went to bed She applied a very light coating over the affected areas and then put on a pair of my Light Impressions cotton gloves. I use the gloves when matting or handling my photography prints. They are extremely light and are made of 100% cotton. It only took 2 nights of this and her hands were back to normal. She was absolutely BLOWN AWAY. To give you an idea of just how impressed she was, she wound up ordered 6 more bottles that same week. Since then she has had multiple outbreaks and each and every time she uses the Manuka Honey. Her collection of hand lotions are doing nothing but collecting dust. Bottom line - Manuka Honey is good for you, tastes great and it has anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-viral properties. Its like liquid gold. It now has a permanent spot on our shelves. Yes, it is more expensive than regular honey but this is one of the cases where you get what you pay for. Its absolutely worth every last penny. This is one train you want to get on. 5 Stars and then some!!

## Questions & Answers

**Q: is this honey an approved umf rating??**
A: This is the review I ledt.
This product should not cost more than your normal average raw honey

Though the company makes no claims of UMF and rates 16 on pollen it's my understanding that in order to label as Manuka it must contain at least rank an 83 on the scale. Bees and trees sent this for a blind lab test. The lab had no idea what brand of honey they were testing. The results came back showing that the MG level was a very low 52. The equivalent UMF rating for MG 52 is…well…it doesn’t exist. What this means is that the level of MG in the honey was so low that it doesn’t even rank on the scale. The UMF/MG rating scale starts at MG 83.

**Q: What is the grade of this manuka honey? I have heard it needs to be over 12 plus.**

**Q: What does the kfactor number mean?**
A: Hello,

Thank you for your interest in our products, we appreciate it.

It is important to note that the UMF Honey Association is a trade association made of voluntary paid membership, and is not a regulatory authority in New Zealand. As a trade association, they have their own honey grading system that their members must follow. Both the UMF rating system and our KFactor system have been deemed compliant for use by the NZ regulatory authority. Because the rating systems are internal standards, comparison of the two is not a transparent exercise.

The regulatory authority in New Zealand, the Ministry of Primary Industries, has recently released the regulatory definition of Manuka honey, which will come into law from 5 February 2018. This is the result of many years of scientific research to find stable markers that can be easily and quickly replicated in the laboratory environment. Unfortunately, pollen analysis was not included because this requires specialist knowledge to differentiate the pollen. However, they have included a DNA test to prove floral origin as an easily replicated laboratory test.

The markers used by the UMF association of Leptosperin, Dihydroxyacetone (DHA), and Methylglyoxal (MGO) were not included into the regulatory definition due to stability and other issues undisclosed by the regulatory authority.

The regulatory definition includes 4 chemical markers with varying threshold levels, and the DNA test. A sample must meet all 5 test standards to be considered (and labelled) as Manuka honey. More information can be found on the regulatory website here: http://www.mpi.govt.nz/growing-and-harvesting/honey-and-bees/manuka-honey/

Please check out our website for updates and new products this year and if you’d like to try some samples, please email me back your shipping address.

We hope this helps to clarify the answers to your questions, as we realize that the lack of a regulatory definition until now has created a high amount of confusion in the consumer market.

We can be reached Monday to Friday 8am to 4pm EST our toll-free number is 877-296-8403, or email me at elizabeth@wedderspoon.com with any additional questions.

Thank you,

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Working so far!
*by J***E on August 3, 2012*

Let me first say that I love honey, and I truly believe in the healing powers of the magic golden liquid. Those out there who have never experienced any honey other than the clover honey so common in the U.S. have never lived. It was when I lived in Yemen for three years that I discovered my love for honey, because it was there where I discovered Sidr honey, which is absolutely, hands-down, the best honey I have ever tasted in my life. There you can get it for about $60/kilo ($28 or so per pound)...if you get it in Europe or the U.S., expect to pay $150/kilo or more. In my opinion, it was worth it, and I consumed at least 1/2kg (roughly a pound) per month. Sidr, like Manuka, is quite potent, and so long as i ate it, i never was sick: no stomach bugs, no head colds. Meanwhile those around me without the honey were constantly sick with GI infections. That brings me to Manuka. I have recently started experiencing H.Pylori-like symptoms (dyspepsia stomach pain). I do not trust most doctors anymore for any GI issues, because my travels around the world have brought me my fair share of GI bugs, and the doctors almost always fail to help. Three things I've always used that NORMALLY work: Oil of Oregano (good for giardia, e-coli, entamoeba hystolitica, etc), Grapefruit Seed Extract (good as an antiseptic and water disinfectant), and Sidr honey (good for preventing bugs). However, whatever it is i have this time has not responded to any of those. So, after extensive research, I was encouraged by what i read about Manuka...plus I love honey and i've always wanted to try it. So i ordered some. Although I still have not received my shipment from Amazon (i just ordered it a couple days ago), I found the same exact honey (Wedderspoon Active 16+) in my local organic food market, for only $32 ($5 less than Amazon). Because i wanted relief from the pain NOW, i was willing to buy a second bottle. I've only started taking it today, so I will post a follow-up in a week or two. But let me just say, this is some STRONG honey. You can smell the antiseptic nature of it, and you can taste it (almost a hint of pinesol). It is very thick (somewhere between regular clover honey and honey butter) and somewhat creamy. Flavor-wise (beyond strength), it is pretty good. However, it is absolutely nowhere even close to Sidr on taste...I devour Sidr off of the spoon...this stuff I would only consume for medicinal reasons...and I'd also say that Tupelo tastes better as well. Having said all that, medicinally, a spoonful (straight) of this stuff hit my stomach like a freight train, partly because of the acidic nature of honey, and partly because it was going to work. The first round made me feel a bit light-headed as well. Both of those cleared up shortly. About 2 hours later i started experiencing a lot of mucus draining in my head (similar to what i get when i take oil of oregano), so I knew that it was in my bloodstream working on other matters as well. By the time i consumed my second dose (this time on a bit of a muffin--gluten free and dairy free), my stomach was already starting to feel a bit better. The second dose, possibly because of the muffin as a buffer, didn't hit my stomach as hard. For those with h.pylori: Please note that I also have an order of mastic gum on the way. Based on everything I've read, mastic gum seems to be the most effective cure. I'm hoping that between mastic gum and munaka, i'll beat this thing. I don't know if Manuka on its own is strong enough to kill all cases of h.pylori. To conclude: - Taste: Do NOT buy this for taste. It tastes good, but if you're going to spend $37/pound, find yourself some Yemeni Sidr honey...if you can find it in a very raw form, it is also quite a strong medicine. Also, Tupelo honey at about $7/pound tastes better than Manuka. - Medicinal Properties: This is some potent stuff...the most potent honey i've ever tasted. I've got high hopes, and it's possible that once my dyspepsia is gone, i'll keep an emergency bottle of this in the cupboard (honey doesn't really go bad) - Rating: Worth all five stars I gave it. I can't say it'll cure cancer, but it seems to be working on my stomach. Good luck.
