I was disappointed by the quality, price, and Amazon service
When the myLifter arrived from Amazon and I unboxed it, I discovered there was no mounting bracket included to mount it on the ceiling, no mounting hardware bag of parts, no wall charger mount, etc. These were all clearly labeled to be included on the side of the box, so I called Amazon service.A replacement was quickly sent, but instead of the myLifter, Amazon sent me a duplicate myLifter hook from that previous order instead. Another frustrating service call to get that resolved.Installation was easy. Their "How to" installation videos on their website are good and worth watching. The iOS app is good and supports being able to define the high and low set-points so you can raise/lower it more like a garage door. (It stops if you lock the phone.). The myLifter with the optional 2nd pulley/hook has plenty of power to store my wife's recumbent trike above her car.A very easy to make mistake (that can destroy your myLifter) is to operate the motor with slack in the cable. While adjusting the bottom set-point, we unwound it too far and the cable came out of the spool and wrapped around the axle. The motor faulted and wouldn't budge. I was able to untangle it, but the plastic coating on the cable got torn up. Don't do that! When lifting, be sure to keep some tension on the cable until the slack is pulled tight.Overall it seems to be working well now. My wife can easily stow and go the trike with her phone. For $200 would I buy another? Harbor freight tools sells a 440 lb. electric hoist with a remote for $99. I think I'll look for a less expensive hoist next time.

Beware if using with a pulley system
A word of caution for those who plan to use their MyLifter with pulleys: using the pulley system is fraught with challenges. I bought two of the MyLifter pulley hooks, with two MyLifters, to lift two kayaks. I will be returning the pulley hooks.First, to use pulley hooks to lift a kayak, the straps need to be *very* precisely positioned around the kayak's center of gravity. If they are off to any degree, the kayak will tilt severely or, worse yet, only lift one end.Second, the pulley hooks are very inefficiently designed. They take up nearly 9" of vertical space. If you have any restrictions on vertical space (as I do), they will cost you inches.Third, the pulley system itself prevents the MyLifters from hoisting up as far as they can go. As the kayak ascends to the MyLifters, the pulleys pull in towards one another, increasing tension on the cable. This causes the MyLifter to reach maximum load capacity sooner than it otherwise would, again wasting valuable vertical space. The only solution for my setup was to by a second MyLifter for each kayak (four total). By having a *pair* of hoists for each kayak, the balancing issues are resolved and I'm able to utilize the maximum amount of vertical space. The MyLifters are great and seem to work well, but the pulley system is sloppy and inefficient. Having to abandon the pulley system caused me to spend twice as much as I originally intended on this project.

Two of these broke. Good customer service the first time, then.....
I bought one here from amazon. It surely seems like a good idea and a good product. I hung it exactly according to the directions. This one was in the process of reeling back up when it clicked and stopped working all together. Emailed the company and they replaced it immediately. Good job on this. Hang the new one up and it works flawlessly for weeks. then....click. Ooh man! Same problem but this time I was lowering it. (I was raising and lowering a sub-20 lb carbon fiber bike each time.) I emailed the company again, and after two months have not heard anything back. I believe the idea is a great principle with sub-par execution. On one of the faulty units, It was missing a screw from final assembly that should have been caught in quality control. It seems to me that a higher quality motor should not be that much more to make these bulletproof. I mean, you are paying over $100 for a very small electric motor and some hardware. Many people have great success with these and you should balance my experience with all of their reviews.
