The paper is a little off white, giving you the ancient feel, pretty thick comparing to other calligraphy paper, good quality. It's a little bit bigger than the size of a calligraphy book or sketch book, perfect size for practicing calligraphy or small sumi painting. The paper is half ripe and half raw, so good for using ink (not ink stick though unless you are doing sumi or xie yi painting, for its absorbent effect). The paper remains very smooth after the ink gets dry (some paper got wrinkles after ink dried ) and make my calligraphy look better than it is (I really like that). I would like to try a small sumi painting in a couple of days, I am sure it will turn out pretty good too. I knew that going in but it's really frail and can be easily bent or damaged, so it's best to leave the sheets in the wrapper someplace flat. In this style, you want to make one brush stroke ideally or very lightly.
