For a few weeks they used old laptops of ours and it was ok but didn't do well with the video class meetings so we looked for chromebook options.We were initially looking at the Duet, and I'd imagine once its out that will be a pretty good option too. We went with this because it *should* be more durable than the Duet, we didn't know when the Duet was going to be out, and the keyboard and additional storage of the Duet wasn't that important for us. If the keyboard and storage space isn't important to you, then its not worth paying a bit more to get it.We went with a tablet form factor for their Chromebook rather than a laptop style because in the short term they are using it for schooling at home, but in the long term it will be more for fun and play. We already had extra keyboards and mice laying around that had been collected over the years so for now we've set up little workstations with a usb-c hub that they plug into to sit and do schoolwork, and then they can use it for fun when allowed outside of their schoolwork.We've had them about a week and they work perfectly for what we wanted.
