CLEAN CUT for adult cat nails that many split but not perfect

*by L***B on Reviewed in the United States on July 17, 2020*

I bought these hoping to replace the black-handled ones that were shaped the same because I love the feel of those and mine, when my cat of 20 years passed away, ended up being used for a non-cat purpose and eventually weren't a perfect option for cat nails. I absolutely can't get into the scissor style, especially as there's so little room for fingers and the angle just doesn't work for me.The hold of these-you squeeze them like pliers-makes total sense if you do like me and cradle your cat with your non-dominant arm and legs pulled up, holding the paw close to parallel to your chest with the non-dominant hand, and clip it with the clippers a natural extension of your arm, perpendicular to the actual paw (an odd 90 degree triangle of cat paw and left arm, right arm, and chest for me at least-I do it with a dark towel or throw under us on the bed because I can use my legs to hold my cat more steadily/prevent that whole back legs kicking kind of unintended (or so I like to think) destruction via unclipped claws!)... thankfully every cat I've clipped is wonderfully limber (if only because their grooming is basically a long yoga session position-wise) so you can mobilize their paws in all kinds of ways. I've done it when my cat's nearly or fully asleep but honestly it's way harder to control the direction of clipping when I'm trying to deal with a cat sprawled down on the bed-I like to have the paw just between me and the light source across the room so I can see the quick VERY clearly! (If it's really hard to see the quick, a bit of oil can help make it distinct-with black-nailed critters, you have to clip tiny bits at a time til the center part reveals some black which is the pulp-most I know use a dremel for those, but you can use ones like this.) Anyway, these cut CLEAN, the blades are sharp with a good slant (several I've seen are blunt) and THIN like the ones I had for so long and wish I'd bought more of before they apparently disappeared!FWIW I always cut vertically because the nails are usually more narrow than they are tall-I find the pressure of the actual snip is less, it doesn't shake the paw as much (cats are pretty sensitive about their warrior weaponry), and I am better able to get it really even and a true 90 degrees AT THE POINT of the cut-which isn't generally 90 degrees from the base of the nail-my cats have always had curvature even before the quick. I don't want the bottom to be futher from the quick than the top or have it angled unnaturally, and doing it vertically also avoids any snagging of nearby hair since the end of the steel on the clipper is in the air, not over near another nail and its fur.The negatives need to be noted:First, this has, for some reason, -really- small handles compared to many/most I've used. My hands are narrow so they don't bother me much, but I can feel it. I like having all 4 fingers on the side opposite the thumb's side, the top and pinky in the groove and the other two on the middle. My pinky doesn't always stay on the handle, and my hands are thin/narrow, so this might be a 2-3 finger operation on one side (the thumb side runs down along the inside of my thumb and I'm ultimately stabilizing it there and squeezing with the other fingers for anyone who hasn't used this kind). I can't do anything about that one-and it's the most likely deal breaker for many. The spring is really firm so it requires about 4x the force of the others-not great for arthritic hands etc. For 18 total nails it isn't a big deal, but the comfort level is low in turn despite having the design I like. What I did? I swapped its spring with the ones it is replacing. It doesn't open as wide as before but it's wide enough for my use (and I can always swap back if I feel I need the opening to be bigger-or just get a spring that is the length of the other but the tightness/springiness of the one of my earlier pair). Then the REAL nuisance I am gonna need to find a solution to: the LOCKING TAB THAT KEEPS IT CLOSED FLOPS AROUND AND FORCES THEM SHUT AFTER A SNIP. If you are right handed and they aren't completely vertical to the air-not the pet like me which isn't a true vertical because she's leaning into my body some way or another-it'll lock them and you have to jerk your hand backwards to flip them open again. You and your pet are going to be annoyed. I'm thinking that I'll just use a little wire tie (the kind on some bread and used when you have 6' of electronic cord will keep them from flying about and tangling etc) wrapped between the inner side of it when open and the underside of the spring on the inside of the handle (it's on the "thumb" side for a right handed user) or maybe brave unscrewing the thing to trade out this bad one for the superior one in my old one (it is thicker, a combo of metal with notches to close it various degrees of tight and plastic with a grippy ridged end to close, so it should, as it did for over a decade and a half, work for these which ideally I will only open and close once every week or two, not 18x... I'll open the old ones first (there's a tiny screw I have screwdrivers that will fit) and see if it'll work... otherwise, I'll get used to this pair having a bread tie on them! :PVery worth the purchase, shortcomings and all. The Safari brand ones in the store and many others were just not suited for cats/small animals or they opened way too wide for my hands. Can't say they'll work for adult dogs unless their paws have not-so-thick nails, but they are certainly affordable. Just know they're short-handled and the spring is way more fierce than it needs to be (cheap brittle metal I presume).

A good basic nail trimmer for kittens and puppies.

*by J***E on Reviewed in the United States on May 24, 2020*

My small white cats rear toe nails were getting too long and I searched on line for a cheap pair of cat clippers. I decided to purchase a pair of nail clippers on Amazon for a bargain price. I just received this pink pair of (J H Come Professional stainless steel nail trimmer and file) clipper and file set and was very pleased with the quick service.I also tried them on my cat and the clippers worked great. I hold my cat on my left side to trim her claws. If I use them that way the button to lock them closed falls down and I have to move the button by hand every time. Not good if I need to be quick, and I do. So if I use them the other way I cant use the guard and have to move that out of the way, which is ok I guess. What you'd expect for the price.
