Does the job of keeping coffee piping hot pretty well. If you pre-heat the carafe with hot water overnight you will have hot coffee the next morning for well into the afternoon, my husband likes to drink coffee all day so this is good. I don't usually pre-heat because I dislike the idea of dumping an entire carafe of perfectly good water right down the drain every day. Without the pre-heat it still works to keep coffee hot for approximately 4 or 5 hours.My biggest issue with this carafe is the constant dripping when you handle it. The lid is designed so that it fills up with liquid as you pour. It's completely unpredictable as to when it will come back out...either after you've poured the next cup and even sometimes just moving it to another spot on the counter. Tipping the carafe even slightly backwards will send the coffee spilling out onto your hand as you are gripping the handle.
