I have used up to 9/16 in staples and they work fine. Have also used 3/8 in. Will also accept brads of the same gauge. **Q: Just need a basic staple gun to tack up speaker wire off the floor. Will this one work for that purpose yes or no?** A: Yes, this staple gun would easily do that. And much more, it is very heavy duty. We stapled right into our wooden fence to hang up lights. Hope this helps! I highly recommend it! **Q: My upcoming project is to re-upholster my antique dinning room chairs. Will this work with upholstery fabric and the aged harden wood of the chair?** A: It should. The stapler works with a wide variety of staple lengths. You want a shorter staple that will drive all the way down so as to firmly press against the fabric. The harder the wood, the shorter the length needed. I got one of those "variety packs", so I could experiment. I did OK with 1/4" tongs. You may need longer depending on how heavy the fabric is. **Q: Will this staple into sheet rock? Thanks!** A: Yes, BUT staples will not hold very well in sheet rock. They would pull out very easily and would only support shear (crosswise) loads.
