Frankly, unglazed terra cotta kitchen floor tiles work equally well for a fraction of the price; you'll need either 4 or 9 depending on the size of your oven and pizzas to form a square. They also do a great job beneath pans used for roasting chicken and small turkeys. Get to know retained heat! **Q: Can a frozen pizza be placed on the preheated stone?** A: It is best not to place a frozen pizza on a fully preheated stone as the temperature difference can cause cracking issues with the stone. **Q: Is this made of cordierite?** A: I like the stone and use it with the perforated pan. It helps to stabilize the oven temp and develop a firm crust. The stone is about 3/8" and porous.
