Okay for its price and purpose, but could use improvements.
I've been using this product for about a year, and it does the job. After a year, I've noticed the grind is not as uniform as it was when I first bought it, sometimes some really big chunks come through. I don't particularly enjoy using this thing. I couldn't afford a fancy electric grinder, so I went with this one, because I figured it would also be handy to take on camping trips. The thing about the stainless steel finish is that it slides like crazy in your hands when you're trying to grind. I usually have to hold the body of the grinder with a grippy pot holder so it doesn't slip in my hands while grinding. It would also be great if there was some sort of indicator to see inside what setting you have it at. There's no way to tell if you've got it on extra fine or coarse or somewhere in between until you sacrifice some beans to grind and see.

Small but well designed and constructed.
Well constructed. Looks cool on my counter. Just be advised:---it doesn't hold a lot of beans, just enough for a 12 cup drip machine.---it's tricky to adjust for the desired grind. There are no calibration marks, so you'll need a few test grinds to get it where you want it.---Reassembly after cleaning is a little tricky. The illustration in the directions needs to be more detailed... Careful with those washers. They need to be facing the right way.---It's takes a relatively long time to grind the beans, around two minutes of vigorous cranking for half a cup of beans. That said, once you've taken the above into account, it's still a solid grinder at a fair price.

it's a nice grinder. Definitely not as burdensome as I expected ...
On the whole, it's a nice grinder. Definitely not as burdensome as I expected nor as some reviewers stated. I make one americano every morning and don't need a big electric grinder taking up a lot of kitchen real estate so a manual grinder is fine. Espresso grind from the coffee shop's grinders doesn't give me the crema, so I like a turkish grind for my espresso machine which makes a burr grinder preferred and this one does the job well. Took a full cylander and about 100 cranks to get enough for a cup of coffee this morning and while that sounds like a lot of effort, it took no more than a few minutes to measure, grind and brew.I would give it more stars, but the shipping packing leaves a lot to be desired.

WOW! Customer support from CEO!
This coffee grinder is well made and does the job admirably. I bought it to replace an old Braun electric grinder I'd been using for at least ten years. I realized two advantages of this grinder over an electric: (1) I can adjust the grind coarseness to what I like best and (2) it's great for grinding coffee in the morning while camping in remote locations in our old VW bus without access to a 120VAC receptacle. That said, I noted during my search on Amazon that there seem to be quite a few very similar manual grinders offered by other vendors. I suspect that many are essentially the same design but with different brand logos on them. So, how might a potential buyer discriminate between these similar (perhaps identical) grinders? Read on...What impressed me most about this Purple Tractor grinder was my experience with their customer service. Soon after receiving the grinder, I managed to misplace the instruction manual. I didn't need it to actually grind coffee; that was a no-brainer. The problem arose when I tried grinding flax seed. The result was not the flax seed meal I thought I could make, but a coffee grinder that was a gooey mess and needed a serious cleaning. Still not having found the manual with the disassembly instructions, I fired off an email to the Purple Tractor people requesting how to obtain a replacement manual, preferably online. I asked that, if possible, they reply quickly so I could have the grinder cleaned before I would need it the next morning. I was amazed when, a few short hours later, I received a cordial reply, including some attached pdf copies of the disassembly instructions, sent by none other than "Gary," the owner of Purple Tractor! Now that's customer support to crow about.Bottom line: how can a buyer go wrong if the product AND the customer support are both excellent?

Wears down quickly
I bought this product and have used it 3 times. It works great and I love it. BUT! The first time I used it the inside got a small crack, it's now worse. The third time I noticed grinder has gashes and is already wearing down. I messaged the Facebook page for this company and I got a message back saying The purple tractor is no longer in business. It's a real bummer, I really love this grinder but I know it's not going to last long.update May 2, 2017 I stopped using this grinder a few months ago because the insides wore down to bad it wasn't grinding evenly. This product was a waste of money. Spend the extra bucks and invest in a good grinder.

Same grinder as many other companies selling but The Purple Tractor has GREAT customer service!
Bought to replace Hario slim manual burr grinder which had the plastic chipping off the top of the base where it threads into the top part of the grinder where you put the beans. It works great, unfortunately after a month or maybe more of daily use one of the little plastic washers had broken. I was quite dismayed at Chinese plastic failing me yet again, contacted the company, a few days later they asked for my Amazon order number. I sent back on a Friday, on Sunday there was a new grinder in my mailbox. Now if I can only find where to get a replacement washer, I'll have 2 for the price of one! (And whatever cents the little plastic piece costs). Incredible customer service, great product, as other reviewers have noted it's essentially the same as more than a dozen other ones being sold under different brand names on Amazon, but with such excellent customer service I can only recommend trying out the Purple Tractor! Love that it fits inside the AeroPress which the Hario slim mill definitely did NOT :-)Edit 5/16/2016 Another plastic washer has broken, but the Customer Service rep from the company said he is mailing me 10 more! And unfortunately they will no longer be carrying this product as their supplier has refused to listen to their input on how to improve it. So, the grinder is great minus the flimsy plastic washers, but again, this company is awesome and I recommend supporting them!
