Id really give this book 3 1/2 stars. I read this book after I was about halfway through the television series and decided I wanted to compare my notes with the book. And honestly, I wasn’t the most impressed. It’s not like this is a bad book, but I’ve read better ones. But still, congratulations to writer such a hit book, Ali Novak! Now let’s get down to business. What I liked about the book: First, I think there was a nice flow to the book, and all the characters surface-level personalities were easy to learn. At first I though I could never remember all the characters, but I quickly could see the difference between Jordan and Lee. But you didn’t hear much about the younger children I’ll say that. I do think the book moved a little quickly though, I think the reason I thought that though is bc the television series added a lot more things like Will and Haley’s relationship and selling the farm to another character (that wasn’t included in the book). But that usually happens. 👍 What I didn’t like about the book: there was really no character development at all. It honestly felt like you didn’t hear much about coles scholarship and didn’t deal with anyone’s problems. Also, when Alex and Jackie were admitting things to each other, it just felt really random and it was nearing the end so the author had to do this. Another problem, dealing with the grief just didn’t feel right. And Jackie never actually faced her families death at all. When I lost somebody, that’s not how it felt.
