The drill bit might also seem less appetizing to some especially if used for other purposes. Although the drill would work. **Q: How do you get the coconut meat out then? Do you have to use a knife?** A: I must admit sometimes the drill is hard to use. The coconut has two eyes if you look closely with eyebrows, and a mouth. The mouth is the soft spot to insert the drill sometimes the mouth is smaller than the drill so I stick a knife in the whole to get it started. If the hole is big enough I stick the drill in, if not I use the black plunger that is in the drill to push it in so I can get the water out. Than I use a towel so I don't pinch my skin cracking open the coconut with a hammer. If you look at the coconut closely you will see a line that goes around the coconut like a seam it should crack very easy if you hit along that line. I also have another tool that I brought forgot what it is called any way you can also use a knife to loosen the meat from the shell in a back and forth motion all around the meat to loosen it from the shell Know matter what you use you still have to be careful. Hope this helps someone also you can you tube it to see different ways. **Q: Does it not work when trying to open mature coconuts? the ones that are brown** A: The shell of a Brown coconut is much harder. It can only be broken and not pierced. So it will not work. Also, even though there is wather in mature coconuts, it is not very tasty. **Q: Can this be used on a young coconut that still has the outer shell and husk? I wonder if it would be long enough** A: Yes, it is long enough for young green coconuts.
