Offers The Best Of Both Worlds In Study
I have the commentary and refer to it often. In fact I have most of this BST series.I have a masters and a doctorate and I do not say that for pride - but to illustrate that post-graduate degrees require a ton of research - which means my library of commentaries is quite vast and eclectic. This series at large, edited and overseen by John Stott, is most likely the best commentary series out there today in my estimation. While that's a huge statement, I believe it to be true because this commentary series does a stellar job of bridging exposition with application.John Stott was a legend at taking deeper theological truths and packaging them in ways that were able to be digested in any given sermon. And his oversight of this series measures up to that.Like Stott, I've forever felt that it's counterproductive to preach to impress any listener with my theological prowess. The point is to bring glory to God and to move any hearer closer to Him.For pastors, this BST series has foundational to me. The content is rich and exegetical, but very often the series writers point back to how it applies to matters with the church or the human heart.I just finished a 4 month series in Nehemiah, and that volume was absolutely the best work on the totality of Nehemiah I've ever seen. Hands down.I couldn't recommend this series enough. You won't regret it.

Solid Commentary
John Stott's commentary on Acts is one of the better straightforward works available. It is great for the pastor, Bible teacher, or serious laymen. But it offers standard fare, yet in a concise, clear manner.Stott does not present any new or ground-breaking information, but rather does a good job of interpreting the text and providing the reader with a basic, generally solid interpretation.Stott recognizes God's Sovereign Grace (I agree with him here), but he does not embrace the literal fulfillment of God's plans for the physical descendents of Israel (I disagree with him here). He takes the view that Paul's participating in Jewish rituals and sacrifices (Acts 21) was strictly for relational issues (so he rejects the idea that Jewish believers continued to practice Judaism, another point with which I disagree). I don't want to go hard on Stott here, because few teach otherwise.Overall, this is a solid volume worth getting and using.

is an excellent commentary on the book of Acts
The Message of Acts (Bible Speaks Today), by John Stott, is an excellent commentary on the book of Acts. It is written in layman's language and is very readable as well as giving an accurate biblical account of this time in the history of the Christian Church. I highly recommend it to anyone who desires to have a deeper understanding of the beginning and growth of Christianity into the known world during the 1st century.

Early Church
The late John R.W. Stott does his usual masterful writing in this book. Starting with the author Luke and the first preaching of the Cross at Pentecost (Acts 2), he leads you through the growth and development of the church for the next thirty plus years. You see the struggle and suffering of those who preafched Jesus. For those who are interested in the start and growth of the early church - this is a must for today.
