That is easy to get, just take an oil high in alpha-tocopherol, and make sure a capsule contains 268 mg alpha-tocopherol, which equalizes 400IU. However, alpha-tocopherol is probably the least interesting of all 8 vitamin E isomers found in nature. Although alpha-tocopherol allows high vitamin E claims, it is mainly used as an anti-oxidant in the food industry, and offers little benefits to the human body, other than being a fat-soluble anti-oxidant. There are 4 tocopherols (alpha, beta, gamma and delta), and 4 tocotrienols (alpha, beta, gamma and delta). The last decades we have seen a growing interest and research in these 8 vitamin E isomers. In particular the tocotrienols appear to have many beneficial functions, protecting eg brains, heart and liver. 1 mg alpha-tocopherol equals 1,49 IU vitamin E. The other 3 tocopherols and all 4 tocotrienols allow much lower vitamin E claims, 1 mg equalizing up to only 0,04 IU vitamin E. thus, it is easy to understand high quantities of these isomers do not automatically lead to high vitamin E (IU) claims. In our vitamin T 8 formulation we have focussed more on the tocotrienols than on the tocopherols. We managed to put together a formulation that contains 40 mg tocotrienols per capsules, which would be maintenance dosage for adults.
