And the reproductions here are very good, with the sound separations clearly evident and well-engineered.This is definitely happy music, bouncy, light, and fun to listen to. You'd have to wear lead Nikes to keep your toes from tapping. And the fun never stops throughout this 2-disc set that includes four of the Duke's original albums and a total of 47 full-throated cuts.There are also a couple vocals by Betty Owens who is the wife of team member and first-class trumpeter Fred Assunto. Betty has an "old fashioned" sound that fits in quite naturally with the general Dixieland atmosphere this group generates. There are also a few other vocals, handled by some of the male members of the group. All the vocals are good-natured and humorous as Dixieland vocals should be.It's especially fun to hear the rock-solid UMP-PAHS of a real tuba played by both Bill Porter and Lowell Miller. And Jack Maheu plays an excellent clarinet, both on the background winding counterpoints to Fred's trumpet and on the rousing solos. But, then, all the musicians, even the few substitutes to the original members, are excellent soloists in their own right and all blend together smoothly and joyfully.If you like Dixieland of the 50s you'll enjoy this one. It's an easy five stars, and a set that is well worth the price of admission. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ The Best Choice I could Have Made *by S***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 14, 2020* Dixieland Jazz is a style I've always enjoyed but have never owned, even with a very extensive music collection. I love hearing it at festivals, the famous Droopy cartoon and Disney's Main Street. It was about time I purchased an album.I can't be more happy with this choice. Even though these recordings were done many decades ago they sound fantastic. The fun factor of this music is off the charts. If this doesn't make you tap your feet and smile than you died and don't know it. The skill of the band is excellent. Top shelf stuff.Highly recommended ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ great trad-jazz *by A***R on Reviewed in the United States on January 6, 2019* Many years ago when I was but a mere child (mid-1950s) I happened on the DoDs, where I can't remember but probably the radio in NYC. They hooked me on jazz, all kinds. Listening to these CDs brings back fond memories; it's just as good as I remember it. If you like hard driving trad jazz, with the historically correct bounce of the tuba and banjo instead of the bass and guitar, if you like musicians mostly playing together instead of passing a melody around and trying to show their chops, then you should love this CD. They weren't musical virtuosi, but they did know how to arrange and they did swing.
