This was the first year that I purchased Own-root roses, and I bought over 20 of them to replace very old plants. I don't see any reason not to grow this rose in a pot, especially since it has been so slow-growing for me. If for any reason you change your mind, you can always plant it in the ground come winter after you've pruned it and it's easier to handle. That said, I must add that I have found that I much prefer grafted rose plants. For me they have proven to be much more vigorous and much faster growing. All the stems on most of the O.R. plants aren't any larger around than a pencil, whereas the new grafted ones that were planted at the same time are going gang busters.
