I don’t want to increase heat, like foam pads often do. Will it?** A: First, I put it under the bottom sheet for softness and reduce bed sores. Washing it is a chore so I wouldn't suggest sleeping directly on the sheepskin. Since it is a natural material it shouldn't cause you to sweat like a synthetic material. I can't say personally if it sleeps hot because it was suggested by a medical professional for my bedridden husband. But he liked it alot during his long illness. **Q: how do i wash the sheepskin?** A: Over the years I've used Kookaburra Wash in the washing machine on knits (gentle wash, fast spin to get the water out) with the fleece facing the outside of the wash tub. I dry in the sun, although it leaves the leather a little stiffer, it's nice for keeping it in place once on the bed. My kids have never had a reaction to the wash, it's biodegradable, and has a pleasing light smell when done that does fade. I believe there is also an unscented if scents cannot be tolerated. Wash as often as you need, just never wash on hot. We wash maybe a few times per year. **Q: And what is the strange smell reviewers are speaking of** A: The sheepskin pelt I purchased does not have a strange smell to it. **Q: What size would fit best across the foot of a queen size bed to protect heels?** A: Queen beds measure 60" across, so I would think that you'd want to go with a double pelt version.
