It has a soft velour cover on the top and sides and an anti slip pad on the bottom. It has a zipper so you can take it off to wash and it is machine washable so you don't have to wash it be hand. It's comfortable enough but I wish it were a little firmer but that's just me. I have a bad back and if I sit too long it really bothers me. It is just the right about of firmness that it makes my chair more comfortable. The level of firmness also keeps it from going flat too quickly.
