## Description

Herm Sprenger

Review: Amazing results though a bit cumbersome. - My Belgian Shepherd/Tervuren has been East to train with the exception of loose-leash walking. He liked to pull and, at rare times, lunge. After waiting too long to try a prong collar, I was impressed by how quickly (immediately) he responded to it. Although on a couple of occasions he had pulled and twisted enough to cause brief pain, this is almost exclusively a non issue. And certainly less discomfort than having a collar applying constant pressure. Since I’ve been using this collar, I feel I could walk him off leash in many calm, lower-stimulating circumstances, but I don’t, other than around the property and on some hiking trails. On leash he does very well walking loose-leash but will pull occasionally, mainly when trying to sniff something in passing. Still, I’d say it’s been about a 90% improvement in the months we’ve used it. Downside: this 2.25 is definitely more flimsy than the thicker ones offered by HS. However, though I first tried a thicker-pronged HS collar, the prongs themselves were too long. I really wish these lengths of prong had the thicker metal. I have had the prongs slip apart and try collar fall off, twice. Ultimately I think that’s from not having it on firmly enough, but my dog had A LOT of long, thick neck fur. It’s at times challenging to put the collar on snugly with all that fur, as it requires lining up two prongs on one piece with two small prong holes on the attaching piece and squeezing the prongs a bit so they’ll fit. But it’s worth it, and I can do it more quickly nowadays, after some experience. Other downside, my dog immediately knows the difference between when this collar is on or when his lead is attached to his normal collar. As a result his behavior changes a bit. He’s much more inclined to pull if it’s not on him, so I generally keep it on him anywhere we go where he’ll be walking on lead. The positive side, however, is that even without this on, he’s now learned to correct much more quickly with a simple “stay with me” command or even just a clearing-of-throat noise. In sum, this collar has been amazing and my boy no longer acts up on walks, sits more quickly when I stop, and is much less likely to try to jump up the on people he meets on walks. This eliminated the need for an e-collar to enhance training, once other additional reinforcement has been given.
Review: Game changer - This choke collar is awesome. It chokes like ever other collar (I've used another knock off brand borrowed from a our friend) the prongs are NOT sharp, it is black and after about 2 weeks worth of usage it shows no chips or flakes in the color. I bought the 3.25mm and its smaller than I expected it to be, obviously this is a measurement so consult a ruler to choose the correct one. It is much lighter in weight than the other one we were using, that being said it feels strong and secure just built out of better metal perhaps. Anyway our four legged son is a young energetic black lab about a year old and about 65-70 lbs. He pulls like a wild man and often will wait while you walk and then sprint trying to break free. This collar dose the trick the pulling is minimized greatly and he never tired to break free. We have tried heeling for a short break ever time he pulls but we don't have 45 min to use the restroom. When we tried the gentle lead he would walk about five feet and nose dive trying to scrape it off, after a few times on concrete and gravel we decided he was doing more harm than we were good. This collar is amazing it makes walks enjoyable again.

## Questions & Answers

**Q: Is this an actual herm sprenger collar? the description says "herm sprenger quality". i don't want a knock off, i want the real thing, made in germany**
A: 100% herm sprenger imported from Germany.. Also know the swivel shown is no longer on these collars.. Its a double O ring for added security.. The swivels were failing on some..

**Q: Does this collar have a swivel loop? Some people say it does and some people say it doesn’t.**
A: Yes. The one loop swivels, but I usually latch the leash through both loops so that the collar can’t contract - which allows you to use the prongs to train the dog but not use it like a choke chain.

**Q: Can the black wear off with metal to metal abrasion? Or are the links and chain solid black steel to the core?**
A: I've had two for my 80lb labs and they still look great (black) after a year or so. That said, they are not solid black steel. If you look closely you can see some grey steel showing where there is some abrasion. Mostly between the links. Its not noticeable unless you really look closely. I actually had to go look at mine before answering since it so minimal. Anyway, if you looking for a black training collar I think these are great. Hope this helps!

**Q: I purchased this collar & need 2 extra links. I can only find the 3.25mm links in the black stainless. Will the 3.25mm links work w/the 3.2mm collar?**
A: Greetings. The Herm Sprenger Collar in this specific Listing is assembled with 3.2 mm prong links / Anodized Black Stainless Steel. Herm Sprenger makes the Anodized Black Stainless Steel prong links in 3 sizes: 2.25 mm, 3.2 mm, and 3.9 mm.

So, if you are seeing a Listing that is written to offer Anodized Black Stainless Steel prong links in a 3.25 mm size, then that Listing was written with a typo. It should read 3.2 mm if the Listing is offering the Herm Sprenger product.

Now, Herm Sprenger does make other prong collars and the prong links in other metal compositions and metal finishes, and those models are offered in other prong link sizes: 2.25 mm, 3.2 mm, 3.25 mm, and 3.9 mm. However, the Anodized Black Stainless Steel is made only in the 3 sizes that are noted above in this message.

You want to keep your collar assembled / lengthened by using the same metal composition and finish to maintain collar integrity and consistent tensile strength, so you are on the right track to purchase only 3.2 mm Anodized Black Stainless Steel prong links.

### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Excellent
*by B***E on August 27, 2020*

This collar is excellent and genuine Germany Herm Sprenger. The collar is lovely. Not 100% black and looks like gun blueing black. Not a complaint just an observation. I love it and it's easy to remove. Very high quality and will not stretch. Overall very satisfied! 3.2mm is perfect for my 2 year old male German Shepherd with a 19" neck circumference. I removed three links. MAKE SURE IT SITS RIGHT BEHIND THE EARS AND IS TIGHT BUT NOT CHOKING. The martingale section of the collar should be behind the head, NOT on the side of neck or underside of chin, and it will need adjusting often. Also, prong collars NEED to be backed up. Have an additional collar on the dog along side the prong collar. The best option is a flat collar or a dominant dog collar. Attach the leash to both collars. You can also buy leashes made for prong collars and backing up. Prong collars, even Herm Sprenger can break with usage. They're not invincible and you certainly don't want your reactive dog running if one of the links break.
