However, it gets warm. Very very warm. Warm to the point where I don't want to leave it alone and plugged into an outlet. I don't remember the original equipment getting that warm, however in this device's defense I don't believe that I ever picked up the original charger while it was plugged in for any amount of time.I just happened to have the charger plugged in while it was next to the laptop.I'll keep it until I can find the original charger. As others have indicated, the plug is a regular two prong plug (no ground), therefore the converter's power cord receptical also has only two prongs. I only mention this because sometimes I use one power cord with more than one converter (no need to plug in a different power cord into the surge protector), but all of my other adaptors have the third prong for ground.
