**Q: Amazon tends to have a counterfeit product issue.  Is this a genuine Canon lens?**
A: Yes it’s a Canon USA lens. We are an authorized Canon dealer

**Q: What size UV lens protection cover fits this lens?**
A: 77mm

**Q: will the canon 1.4 extender work with lens?**
A: Yes. But the lens must first be extended to 300mm before it will fit. The effect of the 1.4 extender is to give you another 200mm of reach (500mm x 1.4 = 700mm). But you lose a couple of f-stops when you use the extender so minimum aperture goes up to f-11 or so.  Not a good combination for use in low-light situations but it is great for wildlife, etc., with adequate lighting.

**Q: Does this come with instructions and warranty card?  No paper at all in the one I received.**
A: Mine came with no warranty card, no manual, no lens cap, no case, and not in its original packing - just the lens and hood loosely packed in a box for a different lens (Canon 70-200 2.8), which makes me think I got a used lens that had been returned.  Amazon has lost me as a customer.

I replaced my Canon 100-400 with this lens. It was a tough decision, but turned out to be a great move. I love this lens. I'm an older birder, not interested in carrying a big heavy lens. This is a perfect compromise between reach and weight. I couldn't be happier with the image quality. The only down side was having a problem with internal fogging in Ecuador during very wet and humid conditions. Mercifully, this cleared in a couple of hours.
