I primarily target using the carbon/activated filters for my whole house (well water) filtration, as opposed to paper-type sediment filters. Since I'm filtering well water through one 10" filter (as opposed to having a pre-filter of the paper type, followed by a carbon 2nd filter), my main criteria have been 1. 5micron filtering level, 2. carbon filtration for odor (I occasionally get sulfur from the well water), 3. reliable sediment and iron filtering, and 4. good capacity because these things aren't cheap. The 12,000 gal capacity is on the better end of similar filters, especially with the 5micron filtering level. I have tried cheaper carbon filters, and I've found they have a dismal lifespan making the savings moot. I've also tried wrapped filters, which can get you down to 5microns and are frequently recommended for well water, but I've found they don't have the odor beating capabilities I'm also looking for. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ 4.0 out of 5 stars Good GE alternative. *by T***L on Reviewed in the United States on April 6, 2015* This filter is a good filter for my GE whole house filter. It lasts about twice as long as the GE filter that comes with my unit. We have hard water with iron. This filter gives my water a clean, pure taste. It also prevents the dreaded rust deposits in toilets, sinks, and baths. My whites are white and my water has not metallic taste. This is my preferred replacement filter. I give this only 4 stars because it does not last as long as it claims to.
