It broke from being twisted the wrong way.What's gonna happen if someone puts wet clothes on it? Do you imagine the rod snapping in half? So, I probably put 8-12 wet garments in there at a time, and that sometimes includes jeans, but mostly it would include shirts and pajama pants, shorts, socks, etc. I put space between the garments so there is air circulation, and this might approximate having dry garments hung close together. I have had no slipping or falling or sagging of this rod which is used exclusively high up in my shower for hanging wet clothes to dry. We also hang wet towels on it, both on hangers and just draping the towels over it. I wouldn't hang ten pair of wet jeans on it, but when a few pair of jeans are hung alongside several light wet garments, it has done well. I'm considering buying another and using rod supports to span a distance in the bathroom so I can hang clothes I've worn and would like to have the wrinkles steamed out in the bathroom and don't want to iron or put back in the closet because they've been worn once. If this is long enough, I'll use it or I'll look for a longer version of it. The price has doubled since I got mine, but it's still worth it. I would rather have a rod up than a clothing rack because a rod will allow me to clear it and have all the floor space below free in a the bathroom and the one in the shower is just high up above our heads halfway between the wall and the shower curtain. While it doesn't say it can be used for a closet, it is pretty strong and I think it's fine for hanging clothes if you don't overdo it as many people do. I think if you hang them loosely and they are not all heavy items like jackets and jeans, you'll be fine. If you want it for super heavy duty closet duty for hanging suits and winter coats and lots of other heavy things, I'd get a heavy closet rod. I got this because I thought it wouldn't rust in the shower, it said it could hold thirty pounds so I figured it would hold wet laundry that I could fit with space between each item for drying, I didn't have to install hardware on the tile shower walls, and it was well rated. I'm happy with it. Also, I wanted something I could take with me when I move so I could use it again. For example, it could be used in the bottom of a coat closet to hang ladies shoes with high heels--the ones you wear a lot but take off the minute you get in the door. Most use a spring which needs to be correctly set to the right tension to hold the rod in place, and in my experience, the spring eventually rusts or fails. This rod uses a strong plastic "bolt" (for lack of a better word) that is friction fit at the user-adjusted length, with a simple twist of the rod. If you remove the inner rod from the outer one, you'll be able to examine this plastic bolt and get a better idea of how it works. Works great for me!
