He already has several of the Super Mario LEGO sets and this is a great addition to the collection. These sets are really neat because they are themed to Mario but expandable. And these sets are not overly priced. One of the other benefits that he loves is the interactivity of the Mario character on some of the marked blocks in this set to cause Mario to react with changes in appearance and sound. So it's not only a LEGO set but it's kinda like a game too. We love this set especially because of the character reference to the Super Mario 2 Nintendo game. You'll enjoy this set. PROS - LEGO Brand set that is high quality - Super Mario themed set that is expandable with other Mario sets in the LEGO series - Not as pricey as other sets so highly giftable - Fun to create imaginative games around CONS - Poses choking hazard to smaller children which is true of all LEGOs Unlike some of the other LEGO sets we have purchased, which is literally over 100 sets, we get a lot of use out of these ones because of their expandability and electronic interactivity. It keeps track of your coins, and makes a Lego mario land from the sets you have you can upload pics of you mario courses and it saves them also. You can also see other people's mario lands. Lego probably made it so we had to get the app so we could get the full mario Lego experience. Its pretty awesome. 100% would recommend. And definitely will be buying more sets. Aslo the power up suits are so cute. Lego really hit it out of the park with this series.

My 10yo son got this set for Christmas this year and he loves it. He already has several of the Super Mario LEGO sets and this is a great addition to the collection. These sets are really neat because they are themed to Mario but expandable. And these sets are not overly priced. I love the lego Mario series. It's so cute. I see a lot of people complaining about having to download the app for instructions but honestly the app is free and its pretty cool. My 5 year old son is obsessed with the Mario Lego sets. Be sure to purchase the STARTER SET! Or the expansion sets will be useless. He spends hours building, creating and setting up new sets. Loads of fun, lots of options. This set was easier and faster to build than other larger sets, but having the expansions really adds to the courses he can build. Highly recommend.
