I have the original Orbi system w/ 3 satellites and the outdoor access point. But the outdoor access point is not as seamless in the mess network. It is assigned as another WiFi network. But it works Great!! **Q: Would this work as a extender with non-netgear wi-fi routers?** A: Yes. I currently use it as an access point for an existing network. It will have a different SSID than the other network, but works fine as a stand alone wireless access point. Fairly robust app that allows for quite a bit of tweaking and managment. **Q: How many 610y's can I mesh together?** A: I have a mesh with 1 610y outdoor and 4 610s indoor and all five mesh well together. **Q: I need wifi at my dock about 500 ft away. I bought a point to point but it is not working to well. It works well in direct line of sight . I have it about 20ft from the ground and it covers a good portion of my yard . I have water front property with a tiered concrete wall and patio area. The signal is definitely impacted when I am in the lowered tiered section so it appears the signal radius is rather symmetrical meaning it does not conform to major changes in the topography. I was not pleased with the performance after first buying this product as I have the matching and compatible same unit but indoor only version WAX610. Both are connected to a netgear insight supported Poe switch . I will say the products are working together on the same network now significantly better than when I bought them and I am now very pleased with the seamless connection/hand off and performance. My guess is the product was buggy when newly released and netgear has pushed several updates .
