It wasn't too hot or too harsh on my skin. However the cap of the water tank broke after two uses so I returned it. Also the box says it does cold misting, it doesn't, and says it has a battery, which it doesn't. Here is th deal anything more than 10 minutes for a steam facial you can seriously scald your face. This holds the perfect amount of water. Best feature is the auto shut off when the water runs out. It is their version of a timer. Also read all of the instructions and warning manual as it tells you everything you need to know. I used to volunteer my time at a cosmetics store that specializes in steam facials and this compares to their machines. I recommend using distilled water in it.
