The construction was very different to this new and improved design. With this design you have a spring action closure on the clamp, which greatly increases the security and sturdiness of the mount when in place. The added grips throughout the inner part of the mount is also an added feature which again just adds to its security when placed on the dashboard. I love the added feature of being able to move the angle of the mount, I usually place it all the way down if I am not using it so I don’t have to take it off the dashboard. I appreciate that you can still turn the phone sideways or upright as with the old design. I also love that the phone grips are a tad more subtle as four individual prongs and not two curved bars that are a bit bulky like the old design. All in all I’m very impressed and happy with this new and improved design. I feel that with the added spring action mount, the added grips inside the mount and the angle adjustment allowed for the phone, this is a phone mount that with last far longer than 6months! It’s also an agreeable price point for the improvements made on the old design. Highly recommend for anyone that uses their phone a lot while driving (for directions). The prongs are pretty adjustable so I think they may fit most phones if not excessively bulky. I have an otter box on my iPhone 8 and it adjusted to the phone size just fine. Highly recommend! ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ A good phone holder, if it fits your dash etc. *by J***. on February 10, 2021* I bought this for use as a phone holder in my golf cart. I have an upper tray installed, and I thought it would fit well to hold the phone to the front of the tray. With some work, I think it will work well.... I am building a mounting plate to help it work on the cart tray.The good things first:- The spring for the clamping 'jaw' is pretty darn strong. I think it will hold well. I also think the clamp that holds your phone is strong enough.- The quality of the silicone padding on the inside of the clamp seems very good.- The plastic seems finished well, and seems high quality.- The phone clamp opens with the two buttons on the side of the clamp. It is easy to place or remove your phone - you just press the buttons.The potential issues:- The Clamping 'jaw' extends a maximum of 1.5 inches, while the contact points for the curved clamping 'plate' start at about 1.9 inches and continue down to about 3.2 inches. You need to have a dash, visor or some part that will allow both to have contact. The thickness of the dash or visor is also important - the clamping 'jaw' turns around a hinge at the top of the holder- therefore, the jaw's engagement becomes shorter as the dash thickness decreases.- The actual clamps that hold the phone are kind of small. I have some concerns about whether they will be strong enough over time. However, because there are two of them, I expect that if one fails, the phone will not be released.So, it appears to be a good clamp. It may take some work or modification to make it work for your particular application. ### ⭐⭐⭐⭐ Very good but it didn’t work out for me. *by E***D on January 12, 2021* I returned this item. This phone mount is not bad, but it could be better with a couple of tweaks.1. The side pieces that hold the phone are too shallow. I have an iPhone X with an Otter Defender case, and it barely gripped it, because it’s not deep enough, and it does not have silicone pads for gripping, which would have kept the phone from slipping out while going over bumps. Without the case it fits perfectly, but I always keep my phones protected with Otter cases, so it didn’t work for me.2. The opening could be a little wider. I mounted it on my 2011 Camry, and if it’s in the center, it works great, but it obstructs your view , particularly with the phone in the vertical position. I tried to place it on the sides, to an un-obstructing position, but because of the curvature of the dashboard, it slips out with the road vibration.It may work out perfectly for other vehicles with flatter dashboards or phones without thick protective cases.
