For readers with existing backgrounds in acoustics, vibrations and perhaps some knowledge of piezoelectricity, this book provides a thorough presentation of ultrasonics. With some knowledge of the prior topics, Fundamentals of Medical Ultrasonics serves as an excellent means by which to focus ones' understanding of these topics towards an understanding of how each relates to the biomedical application of these fields. Presentation of latest research in ultrasonics provides immediate relevancy for those looking to get sharp on novel medical applications like gene delivery techniques. Overall, for those just looking to quickly get up to speed in ultrasonics and also include some hot-topic research introduction, this is the perfect weekend reader and reference book.The specific delivery of the fundamentals of vibrations, acoustics and piezoelectricity is excellent. This perhaps represents some of the best course material on the subjects that I personally have come across. It is clear, concise and very well organized (and tempting to tie into our own instruction of the material as well). It apparently must yield exciting courses for students able to study under any of the authors/co-authors of this text. With each of these topics so well presented, this text is truly a masterful reference to have close at hand.
